Round the Island Race

Notes for Skippers taking part in the Round the Island Race organised by the Island Sailing Club

For a number of years the class association was approached by members suggesting we work with the Island Sailing Club to find a way that in the Round the Island Race can get a class result AND an overall result under the ISC handicap system (ISCRS). From 2017 onwards we agreed with ISC to the remove the "tick-box" Contessa 32 one-design entry option and instead the skippers should enter in the ISC class. Once results have been calculated for the overall ISC position the organisers will pick out the Contessa 32's entered under ISCRS and give a Co32 class result. The feedback has been that this made the event more enjoyable as it's possible to race against friends who are not in the fortunate position to own a Co32.

This requires the skipper to provide boat and sail measurement data for their Contessa and while the form is simple the class association is keen to assist in this, if only to ensure that we have as many boats as possible racing with the same standard handicap.

The info below is based on the Class rules and is typical of a "Racing" Contessa from the one-design fleet.

Note that because the class rules allow the option of using a genoa furling systems and if no furling system is used the sail tack position has to be at least 150mm above the sheerline (to make it an even-field for those that choose not to), we have selected "Yes" to the Furling system question.

Note also that Contessa 32's entering in the IRC class will not get a class result.
