Our genoa car sheaves are very worn and need replacing. The sheeting angle is also awful with the cars aft (and would be even worse if we used the no. 1) so I am thinking of replacing the cars with either tri-roller cars or more likely cars with swivelling blocks supported by a spring which ought to align better. Has anyone done this and is there any disadvantage to such an arrangement?

This was something I was looking at but never did on the boats I have raced over the years. My main concern with the block method was whether it would work with the Number 1 otherwise it would seem to offer the best alignment solution.

Sad Bloke that I am I have done a bit more research and come up with the following: According to the Harken load calculator the No 1 would exert a load of arround 306 kg on the block/car with 21 knot apparentwind (No 1 should not be used above this windspeed) I found what appear to be suitable for the CO32 ‘T’ tracks some pin-stop sliders with blocks made by Garhauer. They are American with subs in NZ, France and Scandinavia but sadly it would seem not in the UK. They do fittings for 25mm & 32mm track (cannot remember the CO32 size!) Have a look and see what you think.

Thanks for the reference to Garhauer Colin, they’re not a company I’d come across in my searches. The CO32 (or at least ours) uses 32 mm Lewmar tracks. I took a look around the marina the other day and am not sure that stand up blocks will fix the problem so may stick with new sheaves in what I have but will let you/the forum know if I find a solution. That said, I am not sure that a solution for me will work for others as it seems that various CO32s have different Genoa track positions and lengths – ours are a couple of feet longer that those on at least one other CO32 we know.

Resurecting another old thread.
I have this same problem of a very ugly sheet angle through the car sheave. Anybody actually fitted a solution?

I’m guessing that your blocks are straight. Ones angled towards the winch do exist. I have both either side, the angled ones are aft. Unless I’ve misunderstood your problem this could be a cure.

I have twin cars either side, but both are straight I think.

We use the largest size of 32mm track pin stop Barton stand-ups which twist to bisect the sheeting angle.
On the port side the lead to the winch is slightly further forward & still touches a stainless rubbing strip.
It’s sorted to starboard though, and overall a definite improvement.
