Im purchasing a 1980 and was wondering how much water should you normally see in the bilge.

Depends whether the mast drains into the bilge, and the type of shaft seal.

Our mast drains to bilge & we have a drip less type shaft seal plus a long rise to the swan neck on the whale bilge pump.
Overall, seems like 1/3- 2/3 bilge in 3-8 weeks depending on conditions, usually the former.
Varies quite a bit which may be down to whether the wind angle favours getting rain into the mast.
Always feels more than it should be, never pinned down where else it might be coming from.
Generally seems fresh but we have a removable log tqransducer which puts a bit of salt water in each time we change it.
