Battery chargers

Does anyone have a battery charger they have been particularly pleased with? I have two 110 ah batteries, may add a third engine battery. Thanks, Nick

Concerto is fitted with a Sterling multi-stage battery charger, I think it is a 20 or 30amp, seems to do the job well but there are plenty of others that will be equally as good.

Badger also on Sterling.
Sterling is a company that seems to understand the issues around batteries and charging very well. Run by a maverick who speaks his mind, and with very good technical backup and availablility.
But agree with George: there are many solutions.

I put a 25amp CTEK M300 charger in a couple of years ago, it’s cheaper and neater looking than the Sterling. Downside is it failed within a year and it cost me £42 to send it back to Scandinavia as the outlet I bought it from had ceased trading by then and the distributor was not at all interested if they hadn’t supplied it, even though the chandler would have handled it. Having said that it was replaced and a new unit returned very quickly, with no questions asked.
One nice feature which is probably available on other chargers is a night mode, which reduces charge rate and turns the fan off so that it is silent. I don’t use it much as I normally leave a solar panel connected to a twin channel controller to keep both batteries topped up. So we only really need it when staying in the same place for a couple of days with the fridge running.

George is that the Pro Charge U 12v 30amp ? I have had this recommended but was surprised by its size and weight, 230×215×90 and wondered if I had the right one?

I think the charger I have is an older model and no longer available so you would need to get the latest version if you chose Sterling. As a guess mine is circa 250×200×70mm.

Peak Flow also has a Sterling device to manage charging of the battery bank from the engine.
Sterling AB1290, 12 V 90A. Dimensions similar to those quoted above. We have three batteries, 1 starter and two domestic.
