Raymarine ST2000+ Autopilot

We have a ST2000 Autopilot fitted to our Contessa. We had a bracket made to fit the tiller by Sims Marine and that was done elegantly. However because the tiller moves up and down vertically the tiller drops when underway and connected to the autopilot. This either pulls the Autohelm out of its, brass male/female plug on the cockpit seat or it simply disconnects from the tiller. Somebody must have cracked this issue as it renders to autopilot totally unreliable except for very short periods when watched. We’ve tried tightening the tiller to make it move vertically less, but this doesn’t crack the problem. Ian S

Hi,
On my tiller attachement there is an adjustable bolt to set how low the tiller can drop. Originally it was the other way up but at some point years ago I changed it so there is a bigger bearing area on the bronze block. I use the tiller pilot fittings to hold the tiller when on the mooring.
Until you can fit a similar screw perhaps some packing material glued in place would work to set the lowest angle for the tiller?

Good luck,

the usual method for a pilot is to set the tiller fixing with the tiller at its lowest point, with the pin set projecting a little above the bench sides
the pilot is fitted roughly horizontal & as set as far outboard as it will go
wrapping an additional piece of elastic around the pin/ram end can attempt to keep it in place even if the tiller is subsequently lifted slightly
