Masthead Fitting

I have just found that the 4 sheeves at my masthead are either seized or worn and need to be replaced. I think the mast is the original. To remove the sheeves I guess I have to lift the top plate/fitting. There appear to be 2 bolts on the sides of the mast and 2 nuts on the top plate. Do I just remove them and lift it off. Any advice welcome.

Just the 2 nuts on the top. The sheaves are still available from Seldén.

Many thanks, Alastair. Someone told me that the original masts were made by Proctor. I’ll measure the sheeves and speak to Selden.

As far as I know the original gold masts were Kemp. The top is all welded together. The sheaves come out when you remove the two bolts. The sheaves were unobtainable when I did mine but I made some from acetal plastic with bronze bearings. These have lasted well for a good 8 years so far. Hope this helps.

If you need new sheaves made by a Contessa friendly machinist I can highly recommend Robin at Sims marine in Hampshire.
