I’ve got a Volvo Penta 2003, 1989 and it has developed a problem – not creating enough suction. Hard to start; revs drop by 100-200 every so often when at 2500/2800. It won’t tick-over it just stalls. Clean fuel, clean filters.
Air getting in or lift pump struggling?
Any thoughts, should I replace the pump?

Must be the time or year for lift pump failure as I replaced mine two weeks ago on a Yanmar 2GM. Justtest you take it off and check to see the the diaphragm has a small tear or hole. You may need new copper washers when you put it all back together.

I dont have your engine but air ingress usually makes the revs increase in a diesel not decrease. Why not service the lift pump?
