HURTH GEARBPOX
I am replacing my Hurth gearbox on my Lister Petter engine.
I’ve disconnected the propshaft which gives me a little space to move the gearbox back from the motor.
IS THIS ENOUGH SPACE??
I will also have to unbolt the rear engine supports for the motor which I will chock up.
IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH RECONNECTING THE ENGINE – GEARBOX
If anyone has experience of this I would appreciate some feedback

Hi Geoff,

I have done this on a volvo penta 2002 and removed the gearbox through the starboard side inspection hatch. It was tight but there was enough room. I posted details on the forum under “gearbox removal”. I would say that if you have to undo the rear mounts, thus needing to reallign, it may be easier to pull the engine forwards to get at the gearbox. I was offered some useful advice on how to do so which is in the thread of my earlier posting.

Hi Lee

I got the repaired gearbox installed but found it quite difficult aligning the spindle into the engine which took me about 1/2 hour. Next time the whole procedure will only take me about a quarter of the time. I had to ease the forward mountings to tilt the engine upwards to give me the clearance needed & remove the air filter.
