Replacing teak trim on Rectangular Shaped Cockpit Lockers

To replace the teak trim on rectangular cockpit lockers you need the following:

  1. 2 x 2 metre lengths of type L1 teak moulding from K J Howells of Poole
  2. Big tube of Sikaflex 292 adhesive
  3. Bottle of MitreMate adhesive plus can of Activator
  4. If possible an electric mitre saw – failing this a good tenon saw and mitre box
  5. Masking Tape.

The sequence of operations is as follows

a)      Cut the teak in a fashion like a picture frame with mitred corners such that it will just fit into the rectangular opening.

b)      When you are sure that the completed frame fits snugly into the opening use the MitreMate to glue the corners then apply Sikaflex and push the frame into position, making sure that you mask the hole to take care of surplus Sikaflex. You will need to use clamps (see pictures) to hold the frame in position as there is a curve in the vertical face in the vicinity of the locker.
