Hot and Cold Pressurised Water
on White Knight of Purbeck

BACK TO TECHNICAL INDEX

The Royal Armoured Corps had kindly fitted a Volvo 2002 fresh water cooled engine at some time so it would be waste not to capitalise on it. Mind you, the racing boys said that I’d never be able to sell the boat with all that extra weight in it!

The important bits were bought from Surejust Ltd on the Isle of Wight who supply most of the big boat builders. The proprietor, David Battle, can be found at most boat jumbles along the South Coast and can be contacted on 01983 874942 and fax 01983 872271. Nothing was too much trouble, and the inlet/outlet on their 20 litre calorifier was made to measure from my sketch. Make sure it is not more than 11" in diameter (you can scrape off the insulation) or it won’t go through the side locker lid!

Surejust will supply:

All supplied at a price so low I cannot publish ‘cos I paid cash, but half what a chandler would charge! Budget around £120.

I also used (to the best of my memory and prices are approximate):

Total £174.50

Surejust bits £120.00

Grand Total £300

We took out the galley foot pump, but left the heads pump in place in case of electrical failure. The work took two weekends, and we think it was well worthwhile although water consumption has doubled. I don’t even mind doing the washing up!
